After our long day at Mammoth Cave and falling into the river, it was such a pleasure to have a lovely home and kind hostess waiting to welcome us. Debbie truly welcomed us with open arms and an open washer and dryer for our wet clothes.
Her home is a beautifully decorated sanctuary that features a cave, a creek, and a rope swing in the backyard!! She made us a wonderful breakfast spread before she left for church Sunday morning. We enjoyed it on her lovely back patio overlooking her portion of the Kentucky woodland. We give Debbie and her home 5 stars. ![]() When we went to Baton Rouge in February, crawfish were out of season, but we had to have them anyway. We met up with a friend of mine who was, at the time, a student at Louisiana State University, and she took us to Sammy’s Grill for the best crawfish in town. Among the three girls and John, we split almost 20 pounds of crawfish, an order of cheese fries, and two orders of the fried bread pudding bites. To say we were in a food coma at the end of that would have been a true understatement! We can’t have crawfish without a beer, so John and I ordered a couple of local brews to cool the burn of the spicy mudbugs. Crawfish are typically more expensive when they are out of season, but paying a little extra at Sammy's was well worth it. I have actually had the pleasure of eating at The Chimes in Baton Rouge a couple of times. There is nothing terribly special about this place, but it has lots of beer choices, decent food, and I've never had to wait for a table.
The most recent visit was in February of 2016. John and I got the spinach and artichoke dip, my dad got a burger, my sister got wings, and those of us who were of-age enjoyed a few local brews. I had also stopped by in 2013 for a full meal and had the seafood pasta. It was delicious and quite filling. All in all, The Chimes in Baton Rouge is a pretty good restaurant with a casual atmosphere. I’ve never had a bad time there, and would recommend it for anyone looking to sit and have a decent, affordable meal in Baton Rouge. |
