Colorado's Hidden Gem - Big B's Delicious Orchards

Located on the western plains of Colorado is a hidden gem of an orchard and farm complete with apple picking, vegetable picking, hard cider, camping, and live music.

​Big B’s Delicious Orchard is the perfect place to spend a weekend and worth the road trip to the small town of Hotchkiss, Colorado.

I spent a wonderful night there with one of my girlfriends on the first weekend of October 2021. We road tripped in a Kuku Camper Van from Aspen to Big B’s and had ourselves an absolute time.

My friend loves coming here and has been a few times, so she knew the ins and outs of what to do. She reserved our campsite the night before our arrival on www.BigBs.com.

​It cost us $25 for the spot, and we were pumped to get over there, though we were in no rush to arrive. We would be spending the next day there, so we took some time to leaf peep on the drive over.

She took me to Kebler Pass which is Colorado’s largest and oldest aspen grove and is debated to be one of the largest living organisms in the entire country!

We arrived at Big B’s around 4 PM. The orchard has a farm stand up front where we checked in and got the lay of the land. There were multiple places to camp, and we were out in the overflow grass lot which was perfect for our van.

​We found our site, parked our Kuku Camper, and walked back up through the orchard to the store where karaoke was just starting. We ordered a round of hard cider and tamales for dinner and found some seats to enjoy the show!

We had a few rounds of the sweet, delicious ciders, and I signed up for karaoke. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a lot of fun. The entire night was a pleasure actually. Everyone was kind and friendly dancing and talking to each other late into the night.

Eventually, they cut us off, and we all went to our respective campsites with bellies and full of good food and hard cider.

The next morning, we woke up and stocked up. We went back up to the farm stand and grabbed baskets to pick our own vegetables from the garden. We walked around and filled our baskets to the brim with tomatoes, chard, cucumbers, peppers, and corn that we picked straight from the plants.

​When we were done we weighed everything and paid per pound.

We also shopped inside the farm stand and bought all sorts of jellies and jams, other produce, eggs, meat and even clothing. My friend also took home cases of hard cider to enjoy later! We took full advantage of the locally home-grown food and stocked up on what we could. We wanted to support this wonderful orchard as much as we could.

After we filled our van, we said goodbye to the adorable place that had filled our hearts and bellies.
