The National Parks aren’t the only things Moab has to offer though!!
I’ll share a couple of tricks to help you beat the crowds and a few of the least crowded places we found!
Tip #1: Visit public lands - like Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Land
Our friends knew of an area off Kane Creek Boulevard / Kane Springs Road called The Ledges. It was still a slightly more populated camping area than John and I are used to, but it was not nearly as bad as we thought it could be. We were able to claim a spot well after 5 p.m. on a Friday.
It was not only easy to camp near our car. It was also spectacularly scenic. We didn't know what the view was like until morning, but we were blown away when we stepped out of our tent.
The public lands around Moab are where all the views and the fun are. That morning, we were woken up by ATVs, dirt bikes, and all sorts of people moving through the canyon.
When the road near our campsite got too popular for our liking, we drove out and found some hidden hiking spots not far from our campsite.
Tip #2: Have a plan, and don’t be afraid to break it
We had no plans or ideas for things to do. We put one of the more popular trails in the area, The Corona Arch Trail, in our GPS and decided to mosey over that way to see what we could find.
When we pulled into the Corona Arch parking lot, it was completely full, and it didn’t seem appealing to John and I. Like I said, we were trying to avoid the crowded trails on this trip, so we pulled off down the road and found another gorgeous spot whose name on the map stoked our interest.
Tip #3: Don’t be afraid to ask!
They said there was a hidden, unmarked, waterfall only about 20 minutes down the trail. We were more intrigued than before. Then, they said that it was their favorite place in town, and they were locals! At this point, we knew we had found a gem! We quickly grabbed our bags and went down the trail too.
Tip #4: If you want to preplan a hike, go for the most difficult rated trail - most others won’t!
Tip #5: Hike at weird times and on off days
The last tip I have for beating crowds in Moab is to go out when others aren’t there!
See more from the fairly empty hikes in my video below!
I hope these tips help you have the most memorable and successful trip to Moab, whether you plan it out or not!
