Things to do and Places to Stay in County Kerry, Ireland

Ireland has lush green mountains, scenic lakes, and stunning oceanside towns. County Kerry is home to all of these and a few of the country’s absolute jewels.

As I recommended in my “Things to Do Around Ireland” blog post, I suggest you get out of Dublin and visit as many places around Ireland as you can. County Kerry is one of the top places we recommend to visit!

Where to stay in County Kerry:

For an all-out luxury stay, we recommend the Muckross Hotel. This five star hotel was built in the late 1700’s and has been updated with modern amenities, a world class spa, restaurants, and bars.

The Glenbeigh Hotel.

Glenbeigh Hotel

You can stay near the ocean at the Glenbeigh Hotel. This tiny, 12-room hotel was also built in the 1700’s and holds truer to its history. It is a quaint place with lovely staff and a great restaurant that locals visit regularly.

Kerry Ocean Lodge

We didn’t stay here, but wedding attendees did. It’s just down the street from The Glenbeigh Hotel and everyone really enjoyed it. It's a 20-room B&B style hotel, offering activities for the nearby "Ring of Kerry".

Towns to visit:

Downtown Killarney.

Killarney

During both of our trips we wandered around the the streets of Killarney, and we absolutely loved it. Last trip, we heard a full band playing on the street, and all of the pubs were full of people. It was a great place to grab lunch and a pint after visiting Killarney National Park.

We recommend taking a carriage ride through Killarney National Park to see all of the highlights including the Muckross House and the Torc Waterfall.

Glenbeigh

Glenbeigh beach.

Glenbeigh is one of Ireland’s beach towns. This is where our Irish friends like to holiday with their families, and we had a great stay ourselves. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t the best, so our beach time was cut short. It was still beautiful, and the locals were barely deterred from swimming and enjoying the water!

While in Glenbeigh, we also recommend hiking through the Fairy Forest. A trail near the beach leads up the mountain and past many painted fairy-houses. It was fun to walk around even in the rain.

We also recommend The Kerry Bog Village. The village site dates back to the 1700’s and is now the site of a restaurant, bar, and historical exhibit.

Kilorgalin

We didn’t spend much time in this very small town, but we did grab a delicious lunch from a pizza pub. It was worth the stop after visiting The Kerry Bog Village Museum and walking around Glenbeigh beach.

Limerick

Limerick was the last town we visited in County Kerry, and we didn’t spend much time here either. We grabbed a nice breakfast from a cafe and drove around in the pouring rain. We hope to come back soon to explore more!

County Kerry has so much to offer, and we’re happy we were able to see so much in our short time. We love Ireland, and every time we come back, we find more and more to discover. We hope to discover the rest of County Kerry in trips to come!
