Where to Eat in Tulum, Mexico

Tulum, Mexico, is a must visit place for clubs, beaches, and of course, the food. The food scene is as exquisite as one might imagine in such a high-end tourist destination.

The location on the water gives way to freshly caught seafood with, of course, an authentic Mexican flare, and there is also a good bit of Asian influence in the town.

We found both high-end and inexpensive, hole-in-the-wall places to grub during my bachelorette weekend.

Tseen Ja above Azulik Hotel

Tseen Ja is a Latin-Asian fusion restaurant serving up sushi, hot stone steaks, and delicious cocktails. This restaurant was the sole reason I wanted to come to Tulum. I cannot deny it.

The nests above the jungle are the most picture-perfect tables I had ever seen in my life. This spot put Tulum on my radar based on Instagram alone. This was, by far, the nicest and most expensive meal we ate in Tulum.

We reserved one of the larger nests which comes at a hefty price of $700, but it was completely worth the price to check this place off my bucket list. We also had a minimum of $150 per person for food and drinks. At the end of the meal, the price for the reservation of the table was taken off the final tab, and we each spent just a bit over our minimum not including tip.

We passed around plate after plate of freshly caught seafood rolls, and I think we tried nearly everything on the menu including the deserts! It was remarkable.

Our favorite things we ate here were the Black Cod Misoyaki and the tempura rolls.

Fresco’s

We found that Fresco’s was a great, easy place to grab brunch. Their menu changes weekly or monthly depending on the season and the ingredients they can get, and I loved that! Everything was super fresh and delicious making it a great place to cure a hangover.

Funky Burrito Garden

This alleyway restaurant is crazy! We were the only patrons in the restaurant when we went, and the servers went all out to show us a good time. They brought us round after round of shots, hookahs, and were pulling us onto the bar to dance with them by the end of the meal. It was a dance party with dinner on the side.

The food wasn’t anything to remember, but the service and experience sure were. The food was inexpensive, the drinks kept flowing, and we all left very happy to have found this funky little place!

Casa Malca

Pablo Escobar’s former mansion is now turned into a luxury hotel and restaurant. We had reservations to eat here one night but canceled our plans after having a bit too much to drink during the day.

I was very excited to see this gorgeous estate but wasn’t too bummed when we changed our plans. It is a bit pricey, so it helped us save money by not going!

Casa Jaguar

Another place we didn’t make was Casa Jaguar. A friend said she made reservations at this restaurant months in advance during her trip to Tulum, and it was her favorite place to eat. It looked like a nice, 5-star restaurant under a beautiful, thatched roof, but we just didn’t have time to make it.
