Where We Stayed On The Big Island, Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i

For Christmas 2020, we flew out to Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i to say Mele Kalikimaka and goodbye to the crazy year!

​Two of the biggest reasons we booked our Christmas Vacation to Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i were because of cheap flights and  really good inexpensive places to stay.

​​Before we arrived on The Big Island, our family booked a week's stay in an Airbnb, in what we felt was the perfect location. It was located right between downtown Kailua-Kona and the airport, and only about 10 minutes from the beach!

There were so many option on www.Airbnb.com but my family booked this precious “Ohana”, or detached family house, based only on pictures and location.

Looking back on our booking process, we probably should have looked into things more closely before booking. ​

​If we had read the description, which states, “Two people can feel very comfortable inside. Our unit will accommodate up to 4 people, but please be aware that it will be tight.” We probably would have booked somewhere else, but I’m glad we didn’t!!

The one bedroom suite was about the same size as a hotel room.

​This was my family's first time staying at an Airbnb with the host on site. When booking, we didn’t realize that “house in the back” meant that there would be a family in the front house. Sure enough, though, the hosts, their kids, and their friends were all around all the time.

​At first, my parents found it a bit strange, but they grew used to them eventually. Plus, as I said earlier, the hosts gave us great ideas and advice, and everyone was extremely friendly! They did give us plenty of privacy, and we appreciated all they did for us while we were there.
